GIVE

Your living room can become faraja. Your prayers are faraja. Your generosity is faraja. When we gather here, a mother begins healing there. When we pray here, a child soldier finds hope there.

When we give here, entire communities find the hope of restoration there.

What Is Faraja?

In Swahili, the word faraja means comfort, encouragement, and relief in the midst of suffering. It is the deep kind of comfort that meets people at their breaking point and gives them hope to keep going.

Our Congolese partners use this word when they describe their trauma-healing outreaches. They call them “faraja mikutano”, comfort campaigns. They risk their lives to enter burned-out villages, to sit with those who have endured unspeakable abuse, to pray with former child soldiers, and to help communities begin to heal. In those circles, “faraja” is not an idea, it is God’s presence made tangible through love, story, support and Scripture.

When we gather here for a Campaign of Hope, we are joining in the same vision. Our tables, prayers, and gifts become “faraja”. What begins in U.S. living rooms turns into comfort that crosses the divide to a child soldier learning he is loved, to a mother rebuilding her life after abduction, to a community daring to hope again in the midst of hopeless suffering.

Why Gather in Homes?

Healing begins in safe, personal spaces. That’s why we host Campaign of Hope gatherings in living rooms and around tables. Just as survivors in Africa gather in small circles to begin their healing, we gather here to listen, pray, and join in their story.

Since 2007, God has given Mending the Soul (MTS) the privilege of bringing Christ-centered trauma care to hurting people in East Africa. Through a small team and more than 200 master trainers (who have been trained and resourced by MTS), we’ve answered the call and cared for those who have endured the greatest trauma with the fewest resources. Last year, through this network of master trainers, we cared for over 575,000 men, women, and children, with more than 23,000 making decisions to follow Christ.

This work is only possible because people here choose to stand with people there. Campaign of Hope gatherings are an important way to raise awareness, prayer, and financial support for this critical mission.
