History and Philosophy
History
MTS began in Steve and Celestia Tracy’s living room five short years ago (2003) with a handful of men and women with a passion to help heal those broken by abuse, a conviction that Christ loves and came to heal the broken, and the painful realization that our churches and communities lacked sufficient resources. We began with Steve writing one of the first books on a theology of abuse and healing by an evangelical theologian. Our first training was to 125 church leaders across the state and covered the following topics: safe small group process, the nature of abuse and abusers, the four primary effects of abuse, and a healing model. We then began offering annual trainings, completed the Mending the Soul workbook, and began to expand our services and curriculum. We have an ongoing commitment to keeping our overhead and expenses as low as possible so that we can maximize our resources.
Philosophy
We are a non-denominational, evangelical, non profit organization 50l (c) 3 that offers hope and healing to the wounded and vulnerable, in the name of Jesus. We believe that God loves every human being and delights in healing the broken and redeeming evil. Based on God’s love for the broken and the oppressed, and the commands of Scripture, we believe God calls His people to prioritize ministry to those broken by abuse. Because Scripture calls us to focus on caring for the poor and oppressed and because many abuse survivors do not have the resources for professional services, MTS exists to provide training and resources to leaders, so that churches and individuals can advocate for survivors of abuse. We also exist to partner with community agencies, to provide abuse prevention and healing training to staff and advocates for underserved populations.
