Abuse and Trauma Ministry Trip

The MTS team will be conducting a series of conferences for pastors, relief workers, care givers of abuse survivors and street children, prostituted women, and soldiers.  They may be adding one other East African country on this trip.  Please check back for updated details.

100% of tickets sales will go directly to Branded and StreetLight causes!!!  The goal of Bethany Bible Church is to use clean comedy as a means of raising a minimum of $50,000 towards these ministries. A minimum of $25,000 from this event will go towards Dr. Steve & Celestia Tracy’s efforts in creating the curriculum that will be used in the aftercare ministry of StreetLight! Steve and Celestia are Bethany Bibile Church’s newest global ministry partners.

In order to reach the goal of raising $50,000 or more, Bethany Bible Church will need to fill their Worship Center for three shows.

The MTS Healing Model and Small Support Groups

 Join us April 23rd and 24th at Paradise Valley Community Church to hear our experienced trainers share their expertise and wisdom regarding the MTS healing model and MTS small support groups.  This training will present materials geared to both seasoned and potential facilitators regarding the ins and outs of small support groups.  It will also address for church and ministry leaders the role and dynamics of the MTS model in church and community settings. This training will discuss what happens after MTS small groups including the responsibility of churches, facilitators and participants after participants have completed a MTS group. One of the breakout sessions will be on personal self-care necessary to be effective in  ministry and not succumb to compassion fatigue and burn out. We will be teaching through both large group sessions and breakout tracks.  Couples and individuals who register by April 1st receive a discount.

Please note:  This training is not intended as a next step in the healing journey for those still in the process of recovery from abuse.  It is expected that individuals are familiar with the content of Mending the Soul prior to attending this training.

Facilitator Training
Come and develop your facilitator skills by learning to understand group dynamics, participant defenses, and how to respond as a facilitator.  

Pastors, Church Leaders, Ministry Leaders
As church leaders you cross paths with wounded and broken people.  Come and learn: (a) how to identify abuse survivors and how to respond; (b) what the MTS healing model is about; and (c) how to implement this model in your church or organization.

Self Care - Staying Connected to Stay Strong
In this breakout we will explore the need for self-care.  We will address ways to stay strong with the Lord and the importance of creating a support system.  This session will also briefly address compassion fatigue and secondary trauma.

Seeking Convergence in the Abortion Controversy

Facilitator Nora Poling is traveling to Roatan Honduras to be a presenter at the “Abundant Life” Church of God Annual Women Conference March 25-28, 2010.  Nora has been asked to do two presentations on abuse and the redemption offered through Jesus at this conference.  The first presentation will be on Friday morning (March 26th) and the second on Saturday morning (March 27th). 

We are grateful to the Lord for empowering Nora to step out in faith to teach in this community that is filled with culturally accepted abuse.  Please pray for Nora as she presents, but also as she is available to speak with the woman one-on-one who are suffering and in need of sharing what has been silent for so long.  Pray Nora will be fully connected to the Lord and able to give Him all the pain and hurt she feels for these women and this country.

Thank you Father God for Nora, our pioneer to Honduras!

Airport

Mending the Soul Ministries recommends all those flying in for the MTS Training use Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport.  Arrangement of transportation to and from the airport will be the responsibility of each individual.  Some hotels offer airport transportation.  Please verify and make arrangements with your hotel prior to booking your room if you require this service.  Mending the Soul does not offer transportation services to and from the airport.

Meeting Facility Transportation

Transportation to and from the MTS Training facility should be arranged by each individual.  If arrangements cannot be made, Mending the Soul will attempt to connect you with a local person attending the training to arrange transportation for meeting time only.  If you need to make these arrangements, hotel accommodations must be within 2.5 miles of the training facility.  Any individual in need of meeting transportation must contact Mending the Soul at info@mendingthesoul.org no later than April 16, 2010.  Please include your name, email address, and phone number along with your request for meeting transportation assistance.  Meeting transportation is not guaranteed by Mending the Soul Ministries.  Under no circumstances will Mending the Soul arrange airport transportation.

Meals

Mending the Soul will provide a continental breakfast and lunch on Saturday during the MTS Training.  Dinner will not be provided on Friday or Saturday night.  Please make arrangements for those meals on your own.

After a long wait, we received the news that Youth Specialties, one of the leading and most respected youth ministry resources in the country, is going to publish the MTS Student Edition!  The anticipated release for the book is the fall of 2011.  We are thrilled to once again have access to quality resources so that hurting teens may find healing.  

Kristi Ickes will be working with Steve and Celestia to do some edits of the MTS Student Edition. They will be adding in more scripture and theology, as the Youth Specialties version will be a Christian book marketed to Christian audiences.  They need your help!  If you read the MTS Student Edition or have used it with students, we would like your feedback before changes are made.  The following link will take you to our online survey which should only take you 5 minutes to complete.  Your input will help make this book one that will help students across the country find hope and freedom.

MTS Newsletter Winter 2009

Steve will be doing a presentation on Street Light and the domestic ministry of Mending the Soul at the SBC Access meeting on Sunday night, December 6th.  If you are 30-40 and single , this ministry is for you and will be a great opportunity to find out about or catch up on what is happening in the domestic ministry of MTS and get updates on the progress of the StreetLight Ministry in Phoenix.
