Registration Costs

Registration costs include training materials and lunch on Saturday.

• Individual Registration (postmarked or paid online by Sept. 14th) $150 per person
• At the Door Registration (after Sept. 14th) $200 per person

Group Discounts:

In order to qualify for a $25/per person group discount the following conditions must be met and guidelines adhered to:

• Groups must include 10 or more individuals from a single organization or church.
• All group members must register (complete step 1) no later than Sept. 14, 2012. (Registration will be made individually but will need to indicate organization’s name in the space provided.)
• One single check paying for the entire group, made out to Mending the Soul, must be mailed and postmarked by Sept. 14, 2012.
• A list of individuals names included in the payment must attached to check.
• Cancelled registrations may result in additional fees per individual and therefore may not allow for refunded fees.
• No fees will be refunded for individuals who have previously paid for their own registration in order to be included in a group discount.

Friday Training

• Theology of Suffering, Brokenness, and Compassion - Scripture has much to say about suffering and brokenness and Christ’s compassionate response. This opening session brings to light some of the struggles we have in seeing, addressing, and entering into those uncomfortable places so we can bring share the hope that comes from Christ’s redemptive healing.
• God Centered Understanding of Abuse - Each of us has been created in God’s image. This presentation discusses the types of abuse and how they wound us and distort our original design.

Saturday Training

• Community Based Model - We begin on Saturday with a brief overview of the MTS community based model, curriculum development, and the process in which the Lord uses this combination to heal brokenness from abuse.
• Four Primary Effects of Abuse - This session will address and define trauma as well as the effects of abuse: shame, powerless, deadness, and isolation. It will also include connecting exercises and group discussion.
• Relational Safety - Creating safety within relationship is the number one dynamic in healing. This session will address being a safe person, facilitator or mentor, and what is looks like to be in safe community.
• Nuts and Bolts of MTS Groups - Knowing and understanding the guidelines for best practice are an important part of MTS groups.  In this session we discuss those guidelines and why they are in place.
• Defenses of the Heart - In defense of pain, we develop strategies of protection. This session will address seeking to know those strategies within ourselves as well as recognizing them in others. This session will also include some small group practice and discussion time.

Please note: This training is not intended as a next step in the healing journey for those still in the process of recovery from abuse. It is expected that individuals are familiar with the content of Mending the Soul prior to attending this training. No CEU’s are available for this training.

This concert event provides an opportunity to hear portions of the fairy tale written by Celestia Tracy, and music written and performed by local urban musicians Noel Barto, Ree Boado, and Amber Hunter. These amazing resources are part of the 5 piece curriculum that has been created for our daughters.

This evening will also provide the opportunity for you to view many of the illustrations from the fairy tale by artist Kayla Tracy and hear from Amira Birger who is living testimony of the healing the Lord provides through these resources!

Steve Tracy and Ruth his translator speaking in Mexico City

Terry and Steve returned from Mexico City earlier in the week. It was an incredible trip. They had about 70 at the training on Monday, including many fantastic leaders doing cutting edge ministry to street children, trafficking survivors, abused women, etc. A nun who oversees the sex trafficking outreach for the Catholic Church in all of Mexico was also at this training. She had attended our October training and we sent her Mending the Soul and Princess Lost/Princess Found resources. She loves our material and we believe she will be using it in their ministries once it is all translated into Spanish.

Over and over people thanked us for coming and said that the training and materials were a huge gift from God and an answer to their prayers. One missionary couple came up to us at the first break. She is American and her husband is Mexican. They have three biological children and are the legal guardians of another 14 children, all of whom had been horribly abused. They are working incredibly hard to give these children a safe and loving home. Just last week two of their girls confided in them new memories of abuse from their time in a foster home. This missionary couple said that they had gotten very discouraged but what we were giving them at the training was exactly the information and help they needed to know how to better minister to their children. The crazy thing is is that this couple didn’t know about the training. They had come to that part of town to shop and while shopping in the big Christian book store they heard us speaking in the conference room next door and came in. They didn’t get the written invitation for the conference but the Holy Spirit gave them a personal one.

These are the kinds of people and ministries we serve–those on the front lines pouring themselves out for the broken and marginalized. They have all the passion, love, and boldness you could ask for but need specialized training and written resources. And God has allowed Steve, Celestia, and our team to provide these needed trauma resources. They are so anxious for us to return and offer a more in depth training with additional resources. We fully expect to do that in the near future.

Several university students were at the training and helped translate the notes into Spanish for the attenders. They said they so believed in our ministry that they would love to translate any additional lectures or other materials we needed for future ministry. It looks like another group of students will be helping us develop a Spanish web site so we can post material for immediate access from the US or Latin America. God is good. We are anxious to continue to develop new material so that ministries and Christian leaders like these will have the best Christ centered healing resources possible for their work.

The heart picture here is from the home for abused boys we visited on Saturday. The large heart which is torn down the middle and pierced with an arrow was painted by an 8 year old boy in the home. He said it is his heart which he describes as numb, with no feeling because it is torn in half. When he was five his father woke him up in the middle of the night and took him to his mother so the boy could watch the father murder her. The father is in prison and the rest of the family “gave the boy to the government” so they placed him in this home. The few hours we were there we could see his pain but we could also see the healing love of the Christian couple running this home. The woman who runs this home had a heart attack a few months ago. She and her husband are under such emotional pressure. She was very excited to hear about our resources and training for ministries like hers.

We also visited a girl’s home which was another amazing ministry for abused girls with young children. One of the girls there had a baby at age eleven. Again, it was a very loving Christian ministry with worn out, under resourced workers and a director who is ecstatic about having Mending the Soul material in Spanish to use with their staff.

As you can see, God is working in amazing ways. We have much to praise him for, and much to continue to pray for. Thanks so much for being part of our team.
