Prayer in the Trenches

As often quoted, it is hard to find an atheist in a war zone fox hole. Also, it is impossible to find an abuse survivor (or one involved in ministry to such victims) not in need of prayer. MTS is engaged in a spiritual war requiring a unique strategy to move forward to accomplish the overall mission of equipping churches, counselors, facilitators, and community groups to bring healing to abuse survivors. The battle is a spiritual one and must be addressed through the weapons God has given His children for this war: effectual, fervent prayer for one another.
We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12 and following).
There are many other Bible verses that emphasize the importance of prayer, but what is especially significant is the example of our Lord. Jesus spent hours upon hours talking to His Father. He did so for many reasons, but certainly because of the constant battles He faced with Satan. If the Son of God knew prayer to be a critical part of His day, it is that much more so for us. He prayed for Israel, for Himself, for His disciples to remain loyal and strong, for the sick and those who looked beyond help…like Lazarus in the tomb. He prayed for fellowship with His Father and hungered more for time with Him than for food. Prayer enables us to grow in faith through seeing God answer prayers.
Those who are on the front lines of counseling abuse survivors, facilitating MTS small groups, or meeting one-on-one to offer encouragement and support are in need of prayer, consistent daily prayer. Picture this as a safety net made of indestructible fiber, drawn closely to the tight rope to diminish any chances of injuries from falling.
Men and women, we can help one another in the battle to create safety in our homes and communities and find healing from the terrible damage done by abuse. Pray for God to protect our loved ones, to be alert to times when abuse has occurred, and to get help for those in need of professional support. Pray for Jesus to take His stand against the enemy of our souls. Especially, pray for souls to be healed so intimacy with our Heavenly Father is strengthened.
What an amazing privilege to be able to come to our Father in the confidence of Jesus’ shed blood payment for sin.
God does hear and He does answer. Count on Him!
